Trip Overview
The Mt. Kailash and Lake Mansarovar tour is a spiritually significant journey to one of the most sacred destinations in the Himalayas, located in western Tibet. This pilgrimage attracts devotees from Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon religions, as Mt. Kailash is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and a center of cosmic energy.
The journey typically begins with travel from Nepal or China-side entry points, followed by an overland drive through remote Himalayan landscapes, high mountain passes, and Tibetan plateau settlements. Pilgrims first arrive at the holy Lake Mansarovar, where they perform rituals, bathing, meditation, and spiritual purification.
The tour continues to the base of Mt. Kailash for the sacred Kora (circumambulation), usually completed in three days. The trek passes through rugged terrain and high-altitude regions such as Dirapuk and Zuthulpuk, offering both physical challenge and deep spiritual reward.
The entire journey is both a pilgrimage and an adventure, combining natural beauty, cultural richness, and profound religious significance.
The majestic Mount Kaliash, standing at a jawdropping 6,638m. is more than just a mere mountain. It’s a spiritual journey that will change your life forever. The mountain lies close to the source of four of Asia's longest rivers: the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Karnali. This impressive mountain is also sacred to four different religions: Jainism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Bon.
According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva, the destroyer of ignorance and illusion, lies at the peak of this mountain in a state of perpetual meditation with his wife Parvati. Buddhists believe that this mountain is home to Buddha Demchok, who represents supreme bliss. For thousands of years, thousands of pilgrims have made a pilgrimage to this holy location every year. This intense enlightening journey takes you to the north face of Mount Kaliash and sacred blue and emerald green Manasarovar Lake.
This breathtaking lake represents purity, containing healing properties and the power to wash off all mortal sins. While on this spitual journey, you will get to fully absorb Tibetan culture and teachings, take part in optional daily meditation sessions, and explore the rich history of Kathmandu at the start of your trip. High Himalayan Trekking and Expedition will design an itinerary and program for Kailash Mansarovar trekking according to an individual clients interest throughout the year.
