Trip Overview
A visit to Chitlang village offers a peaceful escape into one of Nepal’s most charming rural destinations, where nature, culture, and history blend seamlessly. Nestled in the hills southwest of Kathmandu Valley, Chitlang is known for its serene landscapes, traditional Newari settlements, and refreshing countryside atmosphere.
The Chitlang village tour is an immersive experience that begins with a scenic journey through lush hills, terraced fields, and forested trails. Upon arrival, visitors are welcomed by stone-paved paths, historic houses, and warm local hospitality that reflects the authentic lifestyle of the region. The village is also famous for its organic farming practices, goat cheese production, and locally grown produce, offering a glimpse into sustainable rural living.
One of the highlights of the tour is exploring nearby natural attractions such as hiking trails, viewpoints, and peaceful lakes, along with cultural interactions with local communities. Traditional food, homestays, and cultural performances further enrich the experience, making the visit both educational and memorable.
Overall, the Chitlang village tour is an ideal short getaway for those seeking tranquility, cultural depth, and natural beauty away from the busy city life of Kathmandu.
Chitlang Village lies on the southwestern ridge of Katmandu Valley and is very close to Kathmandu. The village is spectacularly beautiful and is surrounded by glorious nature and wildlife. The village route was the only way to get to India in the Rana regime. The village itself is unique destination for the visitors filled with huge ethnic diversity.
The Tamang, Magar, Chhetri, Bramin, Newar Gurung all live in the area, allowing you to experience each of their unique customs and beliefs. Many villagers lack many basic amenities so village tourism will drastically improve the lives of the locals.
Chitlang is approximately 27km away from Kathmandu. By drive it will take approximately 2 hours depending upon your transportation used (Private vehicle or Public vehicle) or Chitlang is also reachable by walking/hiking which will take 4-5 hours approximately. Visitors will be welcome into the community and invited to stay with one of the village families. The accommodation is simple but comfortable bedding and clean toilet facilities.
